POSITION
Summary:
Located in North America s wind belt, Davenport is at the forefront of renewable energy technology and has remained home to our largest manufacturing facility since 1927. Originally producing cereal, the plant became a pet food-only manufacturer in the late 90 s and now carefully produces, packages and ships several varieties of our Dog Chow , Puppy Chow , Alpo , Beneful , Purina ONE , Cat Chow , Kitten Chow , Friskies and Kit N Kaboodle brands. The Transportation Manager will play an instrumental role in all outbound shipments of our brands from the warehouse to the customer ensuring low cost and on time delivery of our products to meet our requested delivery date requirements. This individual will be responsible for directing all transportation activities for the plant while providing leadership on the team. The Transportation manager will have 5 transportation representatives that report to him/her and will be responsible for coaching and development as well as annual reviews of their employees.
PRIMARY
Responsibilities:
Develop new truckload carriers who can meet NPPC cost and service
objectives and negotiate rates with carriers that are cost-advantageous to NPPC Co.
Assist carriers in troubleshooting and resolving service-related problems.
Assist pick-up customers in optimizing the performance of their designated
carriers.
Coordinate shipments from nearby co-packers to ensure carrier resources
optimized.
Initiate, process, and collect claims arising from loss, damage, or overcharge.
Primary point of contact for all customer issues
Collaborate with St. Louis Marketing program managers, Order Revenue Management representative and our Customer Development Group on timely deployment of goods for promotions and trade shows
Develop and implement strategy, goals/objectives and policies to ensure successful attainment of Department, Plant and Company Blueprint for Success.
Develop and Implement continuous improvement programs
Perform all other duties as assigned
OTHER DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
1. Direct Reports: Assistant Transportation Manager, five clerks, and sometimes a Management Trainee.
2. Administers $14 million Transportation budget.
3. Impact: plant, division and company.

Education:
Bachelor s Degree from an accredited institution
Experience (Years/Type):
2
years of experience in a management role in transportation and/or logistics
