AmeriCorps members in this position will:
Serve 900 hours between September 2014 and August 2015
Pass a criminal background check
Be available afternoon hours, some evenings and weekends
Complete the following:
Universal Precautions
Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter
CPR/First Aid
FERPA/Confidentiality in schools
Attend professional development, as scheduled
_Monetary Benefits
AmeriCorps members are service members, not employees. Therefore, compensation is awarded in two ways:
A living allowance of $6,500 (paid out in equal increments bi-weekly during term of service)
An education award of $2,775 that can be applied to tuition or qualifying students loan (paid directly to an educational or educational loan institution following the completion of the term of service)

Examples Of Duties:
Six AmeriCorps members will be selected to support Davenport Community School students. Four AmeriCorps will be selected to support students in the iJAG classroom at four high schools and two AmeriCorps will be selected to support the AVID program at JB Young in the Davenport Schools during the school day hours. These members will work alongside a teacher leader, to support homework completion, reading, math, social skill development, and behavioral guidance. Members will participate at various district special events, support field trip outings and support the school day as needed.
AmeriCorps who serve in the AVID program in Davenport Schools must be available for service on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Members can work with AVID teacher leader to set up schedule.
Additional hours can be built into school day schedule.
AmeriCorps members who serve in the iJAG program in Davenport Schools must be available for service a minimum of 3 days a week. Members can work with teacher leaders to set up schedule. Additional hours can be built into school day schedule.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Preferred
Post-secondary education and training in the field of education, recreation, human service, child development, psychology, social work or related field
Experience working with children and youth in an out of school time setting
Understanding of best practices in child development, behavior management developmentally appropriate activities, child safety, etc.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
